FAQ
Find answers to all your questions about your skin and L’Oréal Paris skincare.
What are the basic skincare rules to follow?
With so many different products on the market it can be difficult to know where to start. The first step is knowing your skin type and adapting your routine and products accordingly. Every routine will start with cleansing and end with moisturizing, and sun protection. Depending on your skin, in between, you can add serums, eye creams and other skincare products with active ingredients to target your concerns.
Which products should you include in your daily skincare routine?
Your skincare routine will depend on your skin type and any concerns you want to address. The basics in every routine are cleanser, moisturizer and sun protection. It’s important to choose a gentle cleanser formulated for your skin type to get rid of dirt, sebum, traces of makeup and pollution. Moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated and looking plump and refreshed. Applying sun protection every day protects your skin from UV rays and the oxidative stress they generate. Complete your routine with targeted products such as serums that are often super-concentrated and packed with nutrients and ingredients for specific concerns, like wrinkles.
How do you identify your skin type?
Most of you probably already have a pretty good idea about your skin type. If in doubt, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and wait 30-60 mins. How does your skin feel? Is it slightly tight? Is it starting to shine? Here are some key signs to look out for:
Dry skin: your skin feels parched or tight when you smile
Normal skin: you notice a slight shine on your nose and forehead
Oily skin: there is a lot of shine on your nose, forehead and cheeks
Combination skin: your skin gets oily around T-zone
Sensitive skin: your skin is a little itchy or red in tone
What does skin toner do?
In the past, skin toner was used to rebalance the skin and restore its natural pH after using a harsh cleanser, as well as removing dirt. As cleansers have become gentler and more effective, the role of toners has evolved. Although they are still very good at removing lingering dirt and sebum, they now also act as a delivery service for active ingredients such as antioxidants and vitamin-B derivatives.
How can you keep your skin healthy?
The skin plays an essential role as a protective barrier keeping microbes out and water in. Exposed to external stressors like the sun and pollution, it needs to be looked after to stay healthy. This means applying appropriate sun protection, drinking lots of water to stay hydrated and adapting your skincare routine to your skin type. Let’s not forget the importance of a good night’s sleep and keeping stress to a minimum.
Are L’Oréal Paris skincare products safe?
We take safety and testing very seriously. High-quality ingredients are carefully chosen from selected suppliers. Uncompromising R&D ensures that our formulas combine efficacy and tolerance. Each product is then tested on a wide diversity of skin colors, skin types, and age groups.
Which active ingredients should you look out for?
Many ingredients have benefits for the skin. Depending on the specific concern you want to address, you can find an array of targeted products containing powerful derma-actives. As an antioxidant, Vitamin C increases radiance and collagen production, while glycolic acid has resurfacing and exfoliating actions and retinol reduces wrinkles by boosting dermal fibers.
Are L’Oréal Paris products tested on animals?
Committed to the battle against animal testing, we banned the practice in our labs in 1989, nearly 15 years before European regulations came into force. Even in China, where we have been modifying the regulation by sharing our testing protocols, L’Oréal Paris products are not tested on animals.
Does L’Oréal Paris work with dermatologists?
In the L’Oréal Paris laboratories, our teams of scientists – biologists, pharmacists, biochemists, chemists and dermatologists – work together to perfect our products. The skincare ranges are developed with dermatologists at every step and their efficacy proven through clinical testing.
