5 skin problems that can occur if we don't drink enough water

We all know we should drink 1.5 litres of water a day, but in reality we often don't get our fill. And yet fully hydrating our bodies on a daily basis is essential if we want to stay in tip-top condition. Here are five reasons why you should

If you don't drink enough, lines and wrinkles will appear

Skin's elasticity depends on its level of hydration. If you drink enough water throughout the day, your skin will become more supple, which will in turn limit or slow down the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

If you don't drink enough you may develop skin problems

Keeping your body hydrated stimulates the 'cleansing' organs - liver, kidneys and intestines - thereby preventing the appearance of imperfections and giving you back your radiant glow. So drinking plenty of water is to the trick to having gorgeous skin without resorting to make-up.

If you don't drink enough water you could become ill

Being composed of 60 to 70% water, the human body needs it to survive. It's used to eliminate toxins and reduce the risk of cancers, heart attacks and kidney problems.

If you don't drink enough water, your cognitive function could be affected

In a 2011 study of adolescents by the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London, scientists found that the brains of subjects who had not drunk water found it harder to solve problems and stay focused, compared to the teens who were well hydrated.

If you don't drink enough water, you'll eat more

A study of 45 adults by the French Institute of Public Health showed that people who drink two glasses of water before each meal consume 75-90 fewer calories during the meal and have a decreased appetite. Over the course of three months, these water drinkers lost an average of 2kg more than those who drank less. In other words, if you want to lose weight, drink more water!
